Intraoperative imaging: Precision thanks to information

Dear Sir or Madam,

Do you know how complex and finely branched the blood circulation system of the gastrointestinal tract is? It is barely visible to the surgeon with the naked eye. In addition, it is particularly important to observe it closely during surgery. A non-invasive imaging procedure now offers help, which can be used to measure various parameters. This reduces problems during surgery and the subsequent healing process. Find out more about hyperspectral imaging in the current interview.

Have an informative week,

Palm oil in your Valentine's chocolate? Beware.

A diet rich in saturated fat and sugar not only leads to obesity, it creates inflammation in the nucleus accumbens, a part of the brain that controls mood and the feeling of reward. And this inflammation can lead to depressive, anxious and compulsive behaviour and disrupt metabolism, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Montreal Hospital Research Centre (CRCHUM).

Asthma drug potential treatment for aortic aneurysm

Aortic aneurysm – the dilation of the aorta – is a serious condition that lacks effective drug treatment. Researchers at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden report in the journal PNAS, however, that a common asthma drug can retard the development of aortic aneurysm in mice.

Precision surgery thanks to informative hyperspectral imaging

When body tissue is reconnected during a tumor operation in the gastrointestinal tract, surgeons need information about the current state of these so-called anastomoses. The new, non-invasive hyperspectral imaging technology now makes it possible to measure the crucial parameters during surgery and thereby increase surgical precision.
