Leadership Change at TRUMPF Medical Systems

Effective June 1, 2010, Dr. Klaus Frank, 57, will take over for Peter Hopfe, 65, who is retiring as technical managing director of the Medical Technology Business Division of the TRUMPF Group and managing director of TRUMPF Medizin Systeme GmbH based in Saalfeld, Germany. In addition to supervising the division's operations in Saalfeld, Frank’s duties will primarily include managing the strategic and conceptual direction of the division's research and development as well as managing production areas at home and abroad. Purchasing and logistics are also part of his scope of responsibility.
Frank, who holds a doctorate in physics, brings a broad range of experience to the Medical Technology Business Division. Since early 2009, he has headed up the development department in TRUMPF's Medical Technology Business Division. Prior to that, he was a member of the management team at Dornier MedTech Europe GmbH and was responsible for new business development, marketing and product management. In the 1990s, he was primarily responsible for building up the medical technology division at the DIEHL Group in Europe and in the USA.
Frank follows Peter Hopfe, who built the TRUMPF Medical Technology Business Division in Saalfeld. At the end of 1991, after the closing of the Carl Zeiss plant in Jena, Saalfeld, Germany, Hopfe laid the foundation for a new company, BLANCO Med GmbH, for which he became CEO in 1994. In 1998 TRUMPF took over the company and Hopfe was appointed managing director of the Saalfeld division and was later named technical managing director of the Medical Technology Business Division. He will remain with the company in an advisory role until the end of the year.

The TRUMPF Medical Technology Division ended in fiscal year 2008/2009 with sales of 140 million Euros and employed a staff of 544 as of June 30, 2009. Subsidiaries are in the USA, France, Great Britain, Austria and China. Competence centres in Dubai, Shanghai and Singapore service the regional markets and offer customers consultation, demonstrations, training, advising and after sales service, all in one. TRUMPF Medical Systems is represented in more than 70 countries.
