Hybrid-OR From A to Z

From planning and implementation to investment protection - Maquet offers Full Service covering the entire project cycle.

Rastatt, November 2010. “You must not fool yourself – this is a big project in need of a lot of coordination”, describes Andreas Lauinger, technical director and authorized signatory for the Heart Surgery Clinic in Karlsruhe, his experience with the construction of the local hybrid OR. The implementation in Karlsruhe only took 15 months which shows that the project coordination was well thought through. The hybrid OR - in this case a synthesis of operating theater for heart surgery and fully equipped cardiac catheter laboratory – is a highly complex structure, considering the planning and technical process. This also represents the special challenge: The combination of many individual systems to a functional overall system. A number of resources are needed for the planning and implementation: Architects, specialist engineers, authorities, users, specialty departments and executing companies – all of them are involved in the project hybrid OR.

Experience counts

From the classification of rooms, the room concept and equipment to the viewing concept – many years of know-how is a basic requirement for the planning and implementation of a hybrid OR. With now more than ten years of experience in the planning and equipment of interdisciplinary hybrid ORs, Maquet is one of the international trend-setting companies in this field.
Klaus Christian, Global Project Manager Hybrid OR of Maquet: “The objective is to adapt the room concept and the technical equipment optimally to the work-flow in the OR. This means that, for instance, for the combination of workplace for heart surgery and cardiology, optimal working conditions for both disciplines must be maintained. For this purpose, the positioning of the OR table, the angiography equipment and the other systems are coordinated with the interdisciplinary OR team to achieve optimum workflow.

Getting insights live and on-site

How the synchronization of the Magnus OR table and the angiography equipment Allura Xper FD 20 by Philips sets standards during live operation is demonstrated by Maquet at this year’s MEDICA in Düsseldorf in Hall 12, Stand D 50/51. The hybrid OR installed there is fully equipped and gives visitors a comprehensive impression about the options for planning, implementation and equipment from a single source.
Full service worldwide

As leading supplier, Maquet embraces the project management as well as the complete equipment of the hybrid OR. In addition, a separate project and planning group provides expert support to the hospital with regard to project implementation as well as to hospital planners and architects on-site. The integration of imaging procedures with e.g. angiography equipment is carried out with established partners such as Philips Healthcare. With a central project management and the reduction of manufacturers and suppliers to a minimum, technical and project-related coordination and decisions can be implemented in a timely and efficient manner. This is how one of the most important project objectives is successfully implemented: The installation of a functional hybrid OR without long OR downtimes.
