Some microorganism of the oral cavity such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, Treponema denticola, and Tannerella forsythensis, are inducing a set of inflammatory diseases which are destroying the periodontium, i.e., the tissues that surround and support the teeth. If not treated in time periodontitis causes the progressive loss of the alveolar bone around the teeth and subsequent loss of the teeth.
Although the status of the immune system and the presence of these destructive microorganism are playing the key role in the progression of Periodontitis there do exist some risk factors which negatively influence the health of the periodontium e.g. smoking, diabetes or bad oral hygiene.
High levels of Histamine in the saliva of patients are indicators of both forms of periodontitis – the chronic and progressive one.
The HistaDont™ is the first test system worldwide which allows for the accurate and reliable measurement of Histamine concentrations in saliva - making it an indispensable tool for diagnosing periodontitis and monitoring the outcome of dentist´s therapy.
