JENA. P.A.L.M. Microlaser Technologies GmbH, a subsidiary of Carl Zeiss MicroImaging GmbH, and GHE-member Leica Microsystems GmbH, as well as Leica Mikrosysteme Vertrieb GmbH, have reached a settlement in a long-running legal dispute regarding P.A.L.M.’s legal action against both Leica companies for violations of two patents.
Both patents pertain to procedures of laser micro-dissection to isolate tissues from microscopic specimens. The conclusion of the litigation improves legal security. Both parties regard it as a positive development
in the interest of their customers.
The agreement contains a right of continuation for the systems delivered by Leica Microsystems in the past, including continued use and maintenance. Furthermore, Leica is authorized to offer and distribute
laser micro-dissection systems with the alternative cutting technique used in the current system.
P.A.L.M. continues to maintain sole authorization to manufacture and distribute laser micro-dissection systems with the so called “catapult procedure” in accordance with the above-mentioned P.A.L.M.
Both parties have agreed to maintain secrecy regarding the further stipulations of the settlement.
