MEDICA Health & Fitness Check – Blueprint for Corporate Fitness Programs
Hall 15, Stand 15C24
The MEDICA Health & Fitness Check is located in the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM in hall 15 by MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE and the German Sports Medicine Association DGSP. On the basis of selected vital parameters and a check-up questionnaire the physical fitness and health status will be analysed . Result of the check is an individual medical recommendation.
Professor Dr. med. Rüdiger Reer, General Secretary of the German Sports Medicine Association and scientific head of the 6th MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE and the MEDICA Health & Fitness Check explains: "With our Health & Fitness Check, we do not only want to motivate trade fair visitors but also companies to think about how they can improve the physical fitness of their employees.”
The Health & Fitness Check includes a short questionnaire, the assessment of the physical fitness based on relevant parameters such as heart rate variability and other parameters such as blood pressure or body composition. Polar, the leading supplier of heart rate monitors and GPS sports watches for more than 40 years, will provide equipment and evaluations for measuring heart rate variability. All data as well as the check-up questionnaire are united in the portal solution of Polyconnect. Polyconnect is also used by FC Bayern Munich for the collection and processing of training, test and competition data. The Health & Fitness Check shown can be individually adapted for companies including the measurement of further vital parameters.
The check will also be the subject of the Corporate Fitness session of the 6th MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE on 14 November. Further topics of this session are "Best Practice" - from the adidas Gym with more than 2,000 active members to exercise interventions and physical activity at work. Prof. Willem van Mechelen, leading international sports and occupational physician, will show how these programs pay off.
Exercise is medicine – Best practice in comparison with other countries
Congress Center South, Room 2, 14 November
Exercise is medicine. And sometimes exercise works better for some diseases than taking medication. And exercise can prevent many diseases. Regular physical activity has a variety of effects on the organs and their functions. In addition to a positive adaption of the muscles by increasing the amount and intensity of trainings, the cardiovascular system is adjusted, blood pressure is lowered and the endothelial function is improved, which is involved in regulating the blood pressure of the tonus of the vascular musculature in the cardiovascular system. The general metabolic function is optimized and neurological adaptations take place up to an improved cognitive function. Today, regular physical activity is recommended for prevention, therapy and rehabilitation. And it has been proven for many years that regular physical activity has a preventive effect on chronical diseases (e.g. coronary heart disease by 30-40 %) or delays their development (e.g. dementia).
It is therefore alarming that fewer and fewer people are physically active. In an international comparison, Sweden has a leading role to play. About two thirds of all Swedish men and women exercise regularly and sufficiently. In comparison, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), in Germany this is just 44 percent of men and 35 percent of women. There is an urgent need for action - with regards to increase physical activity and also the structure of the health system and its players. In many countries, the "exercise prescription for health" is still not practised enough or not put into practice it all. There are many reasons for this. At this year's 6th MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE, the situation in various countries will be presented and discussed by leading sports medical experts from the respective countries. Representatives of the global initiative "Exercise is Medicine" of the American College of Sports Medicine and "Exercise Prescription for Health" of the FIMS from Sweden, Germany, USA, Tunisia, Italy and Portugal will present their programs and discuss which models and activities have an impact.
MEDICA Guided Innovation Tour – Conference participants visit innovative suppliers at MEDICA
Halls 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 15
The MEDICA GUIDED INNOVATION TOUR will be one of the highlights of the 6th MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE. Participants of the conference will deep-dive into latest developments of selected MEDICA exhibitors on 13 November from 4 p.m. onwards.
At the first stop of the Guided Innovation Tour (WOODWAY, Hall 4, Stand 4D57), the participants will get an insight into a therapy solution for rehabilitation after, for example, a spinal injury, a craniocerebral trauma or a stroke. Studies prove the principle of neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to reorganise itself after an injury. Neurorehabilitation plays an important role in positively influencing the reorganization of the nervous system. WOODWAY shows the LokoStation, a weight relief system for gait training without the risk of falling - according to the objective "who wants to learn walking, must walk". The LokoHelp gait trainer as an additional module enables automated treadmill therapy with only one therapist and without excessive physical strain.
Another stop on the Guided Innovation Tour will be the WT Wearable Technologies Show in Hall 15 (Stand 15A23), the much-visited hotspot for innovations at MEDICA. Here the participants of the Guided Innovation Tour can test the latest wearables from medically certified wearable technologies for monitoring vital data (heart rate, respiration, stress, blood sugar), to wearables for measuring performance (endurance, strength, coordination) and wearables for rehabilitation (movement analysis and control, muscle activation technologies).
In the final get-together of the Guided Innovation Tour in Hall 15, there will be ample opportunity to discuss the day's impressions and network with interesting partners - always with the aim of advancing innovations in sports medicine together.
Exercise Prescription for Health: sports instead of pills
Did you know that we can influence up to 50 percent of our health ourselves? If we eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly, this not only ensures longer independence in old age. Diseases can also be treated with exercise. But in many cases, physicians and patients still rely more on medication than on exercise.
Patients with symptoms in this functional area represent a large patient group in physiotherapy. The speakers of the 5th MEDICA PHYSIO CONFERENCE bring you up to date on the announced topics and also offer a lot of practical knowledge for daily practice. Physiotherapists are expected to receive 12 training points for attending the entire event.
The MEDICA PHYSIO CONFERENCE is organized by Georg Thieme-Verlag and FiHH Das Fortbildungsinstitut.
The Internet of Things in the Healthcare Industry!
The MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM in hall 15 is focusing on new technologies and is showcasing innovative solutions from the Internet of Things that are transforming the healthcare industry. From the smart prosthesis to the intelligent asthma patch, and fitness trackers, the market for mobile and connected solutions is growing. Not only do they improve the processes and care of patients, but they also enable the patient to actively "manage" their own health by monitoring and analyzing their own vital signs using the intelligent medical and fitness equipment and devices.
Biomechanical measuring systems – motion and posture analysis in orthopedics
Biomechanical measuring systems are used in orthopedics to diagnose and treat misalignments and diseases. The Velamed Company uses its high-tech solutions to measure biomechanical parameters that enable a holistic analysis of human movement and posture. We took a closer look at how this works.
Wearable Technologies Show
Hall 15, Stand 15 A23
The Wearable Technologies Show offers established companies as well as startups a unique platform to showcase their latest developments in the field of Wearable Technologies. The joint stand not only presents consumer products but products from the entire value chain of wearables.
