The Esophageal Cooling Device (ECD) by Advanced Cooling Therapy is a unique single patient use temperature modulation device. The ECD is simply attached to commercially available chiller machines that are accessible in most hospitals. The ECD is a fully enclosed triple lumen system that is inserted into the esophagus as quickly as an orogastric tube. Two lumens attach to the chiller machine, while the central independent third lumen is attached to the hospital's suction canister. The patient's temperature is regulated by the use of a Foley or rectal temperature probe that is connected to the chiller machine for servo control. The ECD eliminates infections caused by catheters or skin burns and frost bite caused by water blankets. The ECD is has received CE Marking and USA FDA Clearance.
