Obelis European Authorized Representative Center (O.E.A.R.C.)
To increase manufacturer responsibility for the safety and environmental impact of products, the European Commission published three directives that establish specific environmental standards: WEEE 2002/96/EC, RoHS 2002/95/EC, and P&PW 94/62/EC. These directives outline rules and safety procedures to be followed by all the EU countries in order to provide a clean, safe environment in Europe.
Obelis European Authorized Representative offers solutions for compliance with the European Union's environmental directives. Since these directives require financial responsibility from producers, you should comply with their standards as quickly as possible to minimize your liability. Obelis provides research and other services to help you know exactly what requirements you must comply with for each of the European Member States where you distribute your products.
WEEE 2002/96/EC on Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment
Manufacturers must implement measures to reduce and prevent electrical and electronic waste, including: registering as producers, marking electronic products, arranging for collection and recycling of materials, providing dismantling instructions, and more.
Manufacturers become financially responsible for compliance on 13 August 2005
RoHS 2002/95/EC on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances
Manufacturers must reduce risks to health and environment by substituting lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in electrical and electronic equipment with safe or safer material. (Intro, Sections 5, 6)
Effective: 1 July 2006
P&PW 94/62/EC on Packaging and Packaging Waste
Manufacturers must comply with certain rules regarding functional packaging, packaging components, and packaging materials to prevent waste, encourage re-use, and increase recovery of materials.
Effective: 30 June 1996
