EU, Canada and USA chemical agencies are attempting to initiate a transatlantic cooperation on chemical regulation to enable exchange of expertise. A first step would be to cooperate between agencies on issues not requiring confidential information as there are already public information to use, for example the REACH Candidate list. Next step would be to transfer confidential business information, involving regulators and authorities from the three sides.
ECHA is hoping to sign a Memoranda of Understanding with Health Canada, Environment Canada and American EPA shortly. “I think it is in the interests of man and environment that we would be able to identify these kinds of very toxic substances in the same way on both sides of the Atlantic”, says ECHA executive director Geert Dancet.
