Lack of exercise, unhealthy diet, stress, nicotine and alcohol consumption - today the majority of the population is affected by at least one of these factors. However, very few people are aware that they pose significant risks for cardiovascular disease. The consequences: More than 17 million people worldwide die of heart attack or stroke every year. Studies by the WHF have shown that 80 percent of these deaths could have been avoided by a healthy lifestyle.
The result of these studies give reason for clarification. The World Heart Federation (WHF), an association of heart foundations and cardiological societies from more than 100 countries, is offering advisory services and prevention projects on heart health for the 18th time in row. Under the motto „Make your promise!“, the WHF appeals to everyone to give oneself and others the promise to lead a conscious lifestyle and thus to protect one’s own heart and that of others from health risks at the same time.
On the website of WHF you will find information and news about heart health. Among other things, it offers tips and advices for a heart-healthy life, includes many downloads of campain ressources. Furthermore everyone can take part in the Heart Hero Award by creating a poster saying what makes you a heart hero. The website contains also a map in form of a globe, which shows all places on earth on which worldwide activities will take place.
