ABIMO

- the Brazilian Association of Medical Devices Manufacturers (Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Artigos e Equipamentos Médicos, Odontológicos, Hospitalares e de Laboratórios) was founded in 1962 when 25 manufacturers of medical and dental products decided to gather in order to strengthen, organize and regulate this segment. At that time, the group was focused on ensuring the quality and safety of medical and hospital devices produced in the country.

The association was reinforced in 1971 with the creation of SINAEMO - Union of the Industry of Dental, Medical and Hospital Articles and Equipment (Sindicato da Indústria de Artigos e Equipamentos Odontológicos, Médicos e Hospitalares do Estado de São Paulo). These entities has been working together ever since.

For 46 years, ABIMO has increased its members. From 449 industries currently dedicated to this segment, about 320 of them are members of the association. During this period, ABIMO also expanded its actions to support productive chain. Through counseling and workgroups ABIMO supports every segment of the technical, operational and membership aspects.

Territorial Base

The sector is strongly concentrated in Southeast and South regions of the country. The state of São Paulo includes 67% of companies – from which 45% of them are in greater São Paulo area. 16.7% of segment companies are located in the South region, particularly in the states of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul.
