Even though the absolute number of patients suffering from it is small, esophageal cancer generally aknowledged to be one of the most dangerous cancers. Morbidity rates are growing fast in the western world and in spite of recent research efforts and new therapeutic developments, mortality is still very high.
We give an up-date on the connection of GERD, Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal cancer, present available therapeutic options, and discuss the benefits and dangers of photodynamic therapy. In addition to that, we list guidelines and internet resources for both cancer of the esophagus and cancer in general.
