Fifty percent of all 40-year-old men worldwide are affected by urinary disorders. By the age of 80, the percentage of affected men rises to more than 90%.

WORLD OF MEDICINE has addressed this age-related symptom by developing the first self-cleaning device for the measurement of urinary flow. It allows every man to be tested in a private, relaxed environment; the presence of another person is not necessary.

The urinary flow test is a simple and effective method to identify urinary flow reduction and physical changes affecting the urethra. A possible medical cause of urinary flow reduction is often a benign enlargement of the prostate gland, also called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This condition causes the urethra to become narrower and obstruct the flow of urine from the bladder. The urine remaining in the bladder can cause painful infections. This condition can be improved through surgery or the use of drugs.

With the UROPOWER, WORLD OF MEDICINE has developed a device for urinary flow measurement, which makes it easy for physicians and potential male clients to achieve early detection of a benign enlargement of the prostate gland. This is not a time-consuming procedure and can be performed on a regular basis.

The patient can operate the UROPOWER himself, without the presence of a physician or nurse. The test results are more accurate since they are produced in a private, stress-free and relaxed atmosphere. Doctors and nurses can attend to other tasks while the patient undergoes testing, offering a significant economic benefit. Nurses are also spared from cleaning the measuring station after each use since the UROPOWER is a self-cleaning device. This unpleasant task is still necessary with other conventional devices.

Inserting a measuring card into the UROPOWER easily starts the measurement process. A display mounted above the urinal explains each step. Immediately after the urine flow is measured, the patient’s flow measurement and assessment is printed onto the card that can be presented to a physician and kept as a personal record.

The card contains information about the urinary flow:
Ø „Normal – have a nice day”
Ø „Mild – watch out"
Ø „Severe – see your Urologist”

Should the urine volume be too low for a proper evaluation in accordance with medical regulations, the UROPOWER will advise „ No evaluation – volume too low".

In addition to the measurement data, the „Thermo card" contains a chart and a flow index, which provide the treating physician with a quick and objective evaluation of the urinary flow.

WORLD OF MEDICINE USA Inc. will present its UROPOWER for the first time to the American public during the AUA 2002 (Centennial Meeting of the American Urological Association) on May 25th, 2002 in Orlando, Florida. WORLD OF MEDICINE will be installing a UROPOWER in the public restrooms at the Hilton Walt Disney Hotel in Orlando, so that every person can test the effectiveness of the device.

Measurement cards can be obtained at the WORLD OF MEDICINE booths, 1938 & 1939 in Hall D at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
