EU Commissioner John Dalli visits the MEDICA

As of the 17th of November 2011 the new EU regulation on so-called fire-safe cigarettes is effective. From this date on only cigarettes that extinguish by themselves as soon as the smoker stops smoking them are allowed to be sold. Physicians are already warning that this cigarette could possibly be even more unhealthy than the conventional tobacco products - smokers would have to drag more often and more intensively on the fags, to prevent the cigarette from going out. On a tour of the trade fair MEDICA in Düsseldorf Dalli however, defended his new regulation.
