Curtained cubicles could be a thing of the past thanks to a unique glass, hermetically sealed isolation room developed in Scotland.
Iso-Pod from Nightingale Intensiv is the only commercially available hermetic system which offers a fit for purpose positive or negative pressure capable glass enclosure. It specifically reduces infection risk as it is built using materials which offer a 99.99% sterile capable environment.
Brian Deuchar, director of the Irvine-based company, said Iso-Pod ticks every box for patients, clinicians and health design architects alike.
“Everything has been taken into consideration –from barrier defense of airborne pathogens to allowing uninterrupted observation while still retaining patient dignity and providing quiet for patients to sleep which speeds up their recovery” he said.
“There was no off the shelf solution and we were required to design and create a significant number of custom components to achieve the clinical performance standard required of such an enclosure. We are very excited about the possibilities Iso-Pod offers the healthcare industry.”
The internationally patent-pending product has finally come to market after a number of years in development, during which time health design architects, clinicians, NHS and HSE Trusts, infection control and health estates staff were all consulted.
The system meets or exceeds all current regulation in the UK and Ireland, health authority guidance and evidence based design thinking. It provides positive and negative pressure, sound attenuation, patient dignity, monitors air leakage rates and meets fire regulations. The door and framing systems are unique and exclusive to the design.
Iso-Pod is modular and will feature in a number of new build and refurbishment hospital projects across Europe and the Middle East.
“We believe that acute care facilities should be the safest environments possible, providing patients with the very best chance of recovery. Reliability, therefore, is key and so we offer a 25 year guarantee,” Deuchar said.
“We only use the most reliable cycle-test proven components and highest grade materials. Plus, as we only produce Iso-Pod products, we are focused and expert in the design of acute health care healing environments. We are capable of fulfilling large scale orders and we have international reach through our worldwide partners.”
