Barcelona, 22th June 2015. - RFID, radio frequency identification, is a breakthrough for the health sector since the devices with this technology facilitates and simplifies the tasks of the hospital staff, optimizes the fungibles logistics and guarantees patient safety.
On Thursday June 18th AECOC-GS1 Spain and Palex Medical organized a meeting in Barcelona with professionals of the hospital management sector in a course to talk about the use of RFID technology in hospitals.
RFID provides visibility and traceability for delicate or high cost fungible material in hospitals in management procedures. This optimization of resources is achieved thanks to reduce product losses due to expirations and human errors handling, as well as a decrease in stock needed. Moreover, it provides key information of the products in order to make better purchasing decisions and logistics management.
After a year of use of Palex RFID solution in Igualada hospital, its Chief Financial Officer, Adrià Sardà, presented the results into this GS1 training to firsthand know the advantages of this technology. 37% of savings in high cost fungible investment were achieved thanks to the reduction of material consumption and the expirations control. At the same time, it has also achieved a 40% reduction in stock value. Referring to time loosed in logistics tasks by medical staff it has decreased between 60% and 80%.
