REHA & MEDI Hoffmann GmbH

Mobilizer with length compensation

The Reha & Medi Hoffmann GmbH has developed a mobilizer, i.e. a therapy chair to be re-shaped and inclined, to care for highest-maintenance patients in hospitals and nursing homes, respectively.
The most striking innovative feature comes from the length compensation appropriate to the human anatomy and a synchronised seat-tilt adjustment upon inclination from the sitting to the lying position. This allows for the reduction of compressive and shear stress, respectively, in the patient’s sacral region upon changing between the lying and sitting positions, thus reducing markedly the risk of decubitus (pressure ulcer, bedsore). Furthermore, the patient’s security is increased, since the synchronised seat-tilt adjustment prevents slipping or diving of the patient from the seat upon tilting the backrest.
The mobilizer may be adjusted continuously between chair and bed positions. The vertical adjustment of the mobilizer, independent on the actual sitting or lying position, allows for the transfer of the patient from his bed to the optimum working height and position, respectively, for the medical treatment as well as that one of the caregiver. There is an optional version of the mobilizer to be inclined up to the upright position of the fixed patient.
The application of the mobilizer is appropriate to speed up the patient’s recovery at lower risk for complications. The periods of high care (IC) and intermediate care (IMC), respectively, may shorten considerably, thus saving costs.
The mobilizer’s cushions are easily removable and conveniently sanitised owing to the easy-to-clean coverage.

Innovative aspects and main advantages:

 continuously adjustable between chair and bed positions
 vertically adjustable in each position
 innovative length compensation appropriate to the human anatomy
 synchronised seat-tilt adjustment upon inclination from the sitting to the lying position
 increase of the patient’s security upon inclination of the backrest
 adaptable to the optimum working height and position, respectively, for the medical treatment
 cushions are easily removable and conveniently sanitised
