Mediplus Launch the Paediatric Seldinger Suprapubic Catheter (SPC) kit

Mediplus Limited are pleased to announce their market leading Seldinger Technique Suprapubic Catheter (SPC) kit is now available for Paediatric patients.

The original SPC kit was developed by Mediplus and the BioMed Centre in Bristol to increase safety and reduce the number of insertions performed under general anesthetic. It was the first product featured in the new ‘How to Why to Guides’, launched by the NHS Technology Adoption Centre (NTAC) and is now sold across the world.

The paediatric version of the SPC kit includes the long needle (16G), guide wire, trocar with an outer sheath, and an 8 Fr. silicone catheter to improve patient comfort.

Unlike traditional suprapubic catheterisation procedures performed in the operating theatre, the Seldinger SPC kit allows trained staff to insert the catheter accurately into the bladder under local anaesthetic1 in an outpatient setting. In addition, it gives an enhanced level of control during insertion, minimising the risk of bowel perforation or bladder damage, and significantly reduces urinary tract infections (UTIs)1.
