New things from the world of medicine and medical technology – MEDICA 2016

Dear Sir or Madam,

Speeches, presentations, competitions – MEDICA 2016 is in full swing.
Thus, the Paralympian Andrea Eskau talked about the influence of medical technologies on disability sports and in her own everyday life. Such technologies can be used also in the industry in the form of wearable technology. Björn Weigel talked about the possibilities that wearable technology provide especially there, and the challenges ahead.

Thursday morning, Prof. Roland Jahns will talk about the advantages of biobank networks as part of the MEDICA EDUCATION CONFERENCE. We asked him about this topic prior to the event.

It is very difficult for surgeons to regenerate cartilage tissue after an accident. There has been extensive research on this subject for decades. Though there are many therapeutic options available, first results are only available after years of testing.

Taiwan Excellence presents innovative products at MEDICA

Taiwan is changing. Instead of production only, Taiwan is focusing on R&D and innovation. For the first time, visitors can get a closer look at the Taiwan Excellence award winning products in hall 17 at A61. Minimally invasive surgery: VR simulators for training

More and more surgical interventions are minimally invasive. For these surgeries to be successful, medical training and continuing education of surgeons are essential. Virtual reality simulators are one way to train minimally invasive procedures. This was the topic of Marc Pflüger's lecture at DiMiMed 2016.

The new Medical Device Regulation

The European Parliament called for a revision to the existing medical directives and associated legal framework to guarantee the safety of medical technology. Therefore, the EU Medical Devices Directive (MDD) and the Active Implantable Medical Device Directive (AIMDD)) will be replaced by a new Medical Device Regulation (MDR).
