ThyssenKrupp Accessibility asked MMID to develop the chair and the user interface for a atate-of-the-art version of the successful curved Flow stairlift, focusing on sturdiness, reliability and a competitive cost price.
The target group (senior citizens and the handicapped) requires the necessary insight into user-oriented design. Because of the varied application in different kinds of stairwells, the chair has to fit into a tight spatial profile, both during use and when it is folded up.
This presented a mechanically complex challenge.
The chair has a number of USP´s, including armrests that can also be used as aids to help the user sit down or stand up, a sturdy, ergonomic joystick key, a fold-up handle and easy-to-fit upholstery. Close co-operation with Tyssenkrupps´s design department led to a highly distinctive, well received product; a genuinely user-friendly, elegant chair that meets all requirements and standards.
