Cleankeys Introduces New Infection Control Keyboard

Edmonton, Alberta, Nov. 13 – Cleankeys Inc. will make its debut this week at MEDICA in Düsseldorf, Germany, Nov. 18-21 and introduce a new computer keyboard that protects against the spread of flu viruses such as H1N1 and other touch-born contagions.

“Cleankeys is the world’s easiest keyboard to clean,” says Cleankeys CEO Randy Marsden. “We’ve made it an aseptic keyboard that is practical to disinfect after each and every use.”

Unlike other keyboards, Cleankeys has a smooth flat surface that enables cleaning and disinfection in seconds with standard solutions or wipes.

Viruses such as H1N1 are spread indoors through contaminated air and common touch surfaces including the ubiquitous keyboard. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), flu viruses last anywhere from a few seconds to 48 hours outside the human body. This makes frequent, effective cleaning of common touch surfaces like keyboards a major factor in infection control.

In response, manufacturers of frequently touched surfaces such as doors, faucets and hand dryers, for example, have developed new non-touch products in an effort to deal with the cleanliness of such surfaces. And now the computer keyboard.

“Keyboards in general are magnets for contamination,” says Dr. Ronald R. Gibb, a noted Edmonton dentist now using Cleankeys keyboards in his office. “Infection control may be a priority with some manufacturers, but not all their products make cleaning easy. We’ve found Cleankeys, however, very easy and quick to disinfect.”

Cleankeys is available in either a glass or acrylic surface, has no moving parts and no crevices where microbes can gather. So users can simply swipe the keyboard clean.

“The world needs such a keyboard right now as part of the vigilance urged by the CDC and other health agencies concerned with stopping infections such as H1N1,” says Cleankeys CEO Marsden. “We are coming to Düsseldorf for the first time because we know that MEDICA is the world stage for announcing healthcare advances.”
