Canadian Exhibitor Brings New Version of HL7 Messaging and Integration Software to MEDICA

Toronto, October 14 – Toronto-based iNTERFACEWARE is returning to MEDICA, the world’s largest annual medical trade fair, and bringing with it a dramatically new, more powerful version of its Iguana HL7 Interface Engine and ToolKit.

The company will be making its second appearance at MEDICA, set this year for November 18-21 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

“Last year at MEDICA we previewed Iguana 4.0 and it was very well received,” says iNTERFACEWARE’s executive vice president Andreas Theodosiou. “This year, we’ll be demonstrating Iguana 4.1 at our Ontario pavilion booth. It has a host of enhancements and new features that make the software easier to use, quicker to deploy, and increased power as an integration tool for a broad spectrum of healthcare organizations.”

Among Iguana 4.1’s new aspects:

Databases: Iguana 4.1 now directly supports practically all relevant databases customers need to extract data from or insert data into, including MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL, DB2, FileMaker Pro, Informix and Interbase

Operating Systems: runs natively on 64-Bit Windows in addition to Standard 32-bit Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Solaris, HPUX Itanium and AIX

Plug-ins: now enables users to write plug-ins in Java and Delphi as well as in C++, C# and VB.NET. For Iguana 4.1, the C++, C# and VB.NET library support has been updated and enhanced

Security: new SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) support allows messages to be sent or received securely – a vital need as the sharing of patient records and other confidential data moves beyond a hospital's walls

International: for European and Asian customers in particular, Iguana 4.1 includes full support for international character sets.

“While a majority of our customers are medical device and information system vendors, at MEDICA this year we’re hoping to attract more hospitals and hospital groups. We believe that CIOs, CTOs, VPs of Integration, and others who are looking for solutions will be very interested in what our products can do to shorten ‘time-to-go-live’, reduce implementation and support costs, and help meet integration challenges,” says Theodosiou.

With licensed deployments recently having crossed the 10,000 mark, many customers are seeing and experiencing what iNTERFACEWARE’s Iguana –and also its Chameleon product line – can do. The nature of the company’s buyers is also shifting.

“We have seen an increasing number of application service provider (ASP) vendors such as Pharmacy OneSource, AHI Software, and CareEvolve using our tools,” reports Theodosiou. “They tell us they especially appreciate Iguana's ability to enable rapid deployment of multiple HL7 interfaces. They also like its ability to efficiently scale many interfaces on a single server. That can mean significant cost-savings for any organization, including hospitals, that host resource-hungry data centres.”

At the same time iNTERFACEWARE hopes visitors to its MEDICA 2009 booth will include smaller but equally important healthcare interests.

“Iguana's small footprint and scaleability allows us to put together a cost-effective package for vendors such as MedEvolve who serve the small to medium size physician office market,” says Theodosiou. “That’s an area which has been greatly under-served by most systems integrators in the past. We believe iNTERFACEWARE has the products to also help change that.”
